Chris Ball
|
| The appeal when S & J Tackle invited
me to play an advisory role in the development of the new split cane
carp rod for the "Scottie"
TM range proved irresistible. Here was an opportunity to indulge my love
of split cane and enjoyment
of angling in a project which was to result in the creation of a rod to
handle a variety of demands, and incorporating just the characteristics
I chose to prescribe. Who could refuse?
|
| We decided at the outset that an 11'
model would be well suited. This would provide additional reach and impart
greater control for fishing in and around marginal weed, and close to near-bank
snags. It offered enhanced casting capabilities for fishing at range and,
with just the right amount of power in the butt, an efficient lever against
the determined runs of hooked fish.
|
| Each prototype was tried and tested
on the water and tapers adjusted and fine tuned, until the optimum ratio
of power and sensitivity was achieved. Ultimately the perfect balance was
struck, matching a forgiving top section with a powerfully yielding butt...
And the 'Allrounder' was born.
|
| I have no crazy claims or flashy statements
to make about the 'Allrounder' 11'
Carp. The high standard of
craftsmanship is everything you would expect, coming from the same stable
as the 'Scottie' TM 10' Mk IV Carp
together with years of rod building experience - well constructed and superbly
finished.
After the tradition of the original
Mk IV Carp, the 11' 'Allrounder'
has undergone demanding practical trials before arriving at it's final design,
and has proved itself a rod for a variety of fishing situations. It has
the 'backbone' to handle 12lb line near to snags or in heavy weed admirably.
Combine this with a fine tip action, capable of flicking out a small controller
on 6lb line for surface feeding
carp with precision, and you have immense versatility - hence my
satisfaction in christening this the 'Chris Ball Allrounder'.

|
| We are grateful to Chris Ball for sharing
his enthusiasm for split cane rods and
carp fishing. For his vast
practical knowledge, experience and for his kind, energetic support throughout
the development of the 'Allrounder' 11'
Carp Rod. |
