S and J Tackle
- Company History :
John and Steven Weaver founded S and J Tackle
In 1982. One of their first products was the "Ultimate" series of
fly tying vices. Their reputation for quality work grew quickly and
they soon won contracts to produce aluminium, Nickel Silver and
Titanium rod fittings that were used by Orvis and several other
leading rod makers throughout the world.
In 1985 Sharpes of Aberdeen cane building
division came up for sale along with all tools and equipment
(milling machines etc) which we purchased. This purchase allowed us
to build bamboo
rods using only our own components and be entirely
independent, Hardys being the only other English company with this
facility.
The business continued to grow and we were
soon busy building
fly rods
for both ourselves and many other leading brands. Over the
following years the company built up an enviable reputation for high
quality at a fair price.
In 1990 the "Scottie" spring action
vice was
born which has been a market leader ever since. In 1995 the
"Rotary" action vice was designed and produced, this was the first
English rotary action vice developed for the serious perfectionist
fly tyer.
The company continues to thrive in the
bamboo rod building market, and our vices are recognised throughout
the world as the finest available at a fair price, many new projects
and products are currently under development.
The rise in far eastern imports albeit
through America has unfortunately seen a fall in rod fitting
manufacture, however the sharp increase in popularity of bamboo rods
in America and Japan has made up for this. We also manufacture a
range of bamboo
coarse fishing rods, traditional landing nets,
priests
and wading
sticks as well as undertaking rod repairs and customising.
We would also like to mention that we have no
connection with Sharpes of Aberdeen as unfortunately we sometimes
receive their rods for repair or replacement.
